Hi
Bonjour
About
Quinlan Deer is a multidisciplinary artist working in textiles, paint, tattoo, and installation. Her work explores the ephemeral nature of memory, dreams and the fragments of nostalgia.
As society shifts toward automation and outsourced thought, she explores the reclamation of underthinking, allowing her hands to move before her mind can intervene. She explores the space where conscious control gives way to organic reaction, allowing the subconscious to speak without censorship: intuition and the irrational become trusted guides in her creative process.
Working with tattoos and textiles, the needle and the body become the through line. She is fascinated by the relationship between ink, design, and the skin as canvas. Collaboration sits at the heart of this work. She draws out what truly matters to clients, honouring both their bodies and the images they choose to carry forever.
Image-making becomes a way to excavate the layers beneath the surface and give form to what remains unspoken. Her work becomes a record of what lives just below, the feelings we carry but cannot name, the memories that blur at their edges, the truths we know in our bodies before we know them in our minds.
Quinlan works out of a studio space in Tiohtià:ke Montreal, located in the Grover Building.
