Quinlan Deer

Hi
Bonjour

About Me

People Person, Design Thinker & Straight Shooter

My strengths come from a combination of the things that energize my soul; people, problem solving, and authenticity.

What I care about

  • Sustainability (environmental, mental, professional)
  • My art & tattooing practise
  • Keeping active
  • Continued self-development

I’m Quin,

A Design Manager & Design Ops contributor from Montreal, Canada.

I believe that people come first, the rest will follow. Communication and safety is paramount to harvesting the best environment for innovative collaboration. That’s what makes successful teams.

Before growing into design leadership, I was a UX/UI designer, a content editor, a front-end web developer, and I even had a brief stint in sales. This background has given me the unique perspective to empathize cross-departmentally, with a deep understanding of different departments across the tech industry. I’ve been riding the tech wave since 2016.

I currently work as UX Lead and a cross-departmental CX Project Manager.

In my spare time, I’m listening to a true crime podcast, attending a life drawing session, camping with friends or tattooing.

My Jouney

  • 2022

After two years as a UX Design Manager, I expanded my department and team to take on CX (Customer Experience) responsibilities: implementing processes and providing resources to my UX team to make sure we were set up for success.

  • 2021

As the digital department grew at CarbonCure, I shifted my focus to solely UX design, and building a team as a Design Manager.

  • 2020

Fast forward to the pandemic. I was ready for a career move, specifically one that involved working with other colleagues. I started at CarbonCure as team member #2 of the newly formed digital department. My new colleagues entrusted me on pathing the way for the UX department, while helping out with web development, in classic startup fashion.

  • 2017

I started my first position in web development. After a year of "trying it out", I decided to embark on my own freelance career, combining my passions for art and technology. Offering web design and UX consultant services, I comitted to freelance for three years.

  • 2016

I graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. Shortly after, I decided to pursue a career in tech, taking on a web development bootcamp and combining my creative background with my newly developed technical skills.
